Mark Woolrich is a Professor of Computational Neuroscience at the University of Oxford, serving as Director of the Oxford Centre for Human Brain Activity (OHBA) and Group Leader at the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging (WIN). He maintains a Senior Visiting Fellowship with the Department of Engineering Science, collaborating with the Institute of Biomedical Engineering.
His research pioneers machine learning and AI methodologies for neuroimaging analysis, specializing in functional MRI and MEG/EEG data to investigate brain function and dysfunction. This work enables novel interrogation of neural mechanisms in health and disease, with particular emphasis on dynamic brain network modeling and computational psychiatry applications.
Recent publications demonstrate his focus on longitudinal neurophysiological tracking in Alzheimer's disease using dynamic causal modeling, and state-dependent brain network dynamics during concurrent EEG-TMS stimulation through hidden Markov frameworks. His research consistently bridges advanced computational statistics with cutting-edge neuroimaging to address fundamental questions in neuroscience.
Professor Woolrich leads the WIN-OHBA analysis group and contributes to key neuroimaging software ecosystems including the Oxford Statistical Library (OSL) and FSL, driving methodological innovation within the Oxford Centre for Human Brain Activity.
