Mark Woodin is a Senior Lecturer at Tufts University, holding primary appointment in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the School of Engineering. He also holds appointments in the School of Medicine (Public Health and Community Medicine) and the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. Since 1992, he has taught courses in epidemiology, biostatistics, and environmental health. He directs the Graduate Certificate Program in Epidemiology and leads the Epidemiology and Biostatistics track in the MPH Program. His research focuses on environmental epidemiology, exposure assessment, and public health disparities. Notable projects include studies on tungsten exposure and diabetes, ultrafine particle health impacts, and uranium contamination in Indigenous communities.
Education: Sc.D. in Epidemiology from Harvard University (1998), M.S. from Tufts (1992), B.A. from UMass Amherst (1989).
Professional activities include epidemiological consulting for St. John Parish, Louisiana, and membership in the American College of Epidemiology, Society for Epidemiologic Research, and International Society for Environmental Epidemiology. He teaches courses such as Principles of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Environmental Health Data Analysis across multiple Tufts campuses.
His research spans environmental toxicology, cardiovascular health, and global health issues like cholera prevention through WASH interventions. He has collaborated on projects addressing occupational health disparities among low-wage immigrant workers and the 'healthy immigrant effect' in aging populations.
