Mark Willhardt serves as Dean of the Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Monmouth College, a position he has held since 2018 after 18 years as a Professor of English. He joined Monmouth College in 2000 and maintains deep institutional ties as a native of the campus community.
His educational background includes:
- B.A. in English from Macalester College (1987)
- M.A. in English from Rutgers University (1989)
- Ph.D. in English from Rutgers University (1993)
Dr. Willhardt specializes in modern Scottish poetry with significant contributions to world poetry and cross-gendered poetry scholarship. His research extends to folk and funk poetry analysis, and he has edited major anthologies and reference works in these fields. His academic leadership now focuses on advancing liberal arts education through curriculum development.
Administratively, he chaired the English Department and faculty budget committee, coordinated the First-Year Experience program ("Introduction to the Liberal Arts"), and spearheaded Monmouth's inaugural Mellon Grant to enhance academic programming.
