Mark Weston Janis serves as the William F. Starr Professor of Law at the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he has taught since 1980 after practicing corporate law with Sullivan & Cromwell in New York and Paris. His extensive academic service includes membership in the Council on Foreign Relations since 1990 and the American Law Institute since 2013, alongside visiting appointments at Oxford, Cornell, UCLA, and institutions across Europe and Asia.
His exceptional educational background includes:

Professor Janis specializes in International Law, Foreign Law, Constitutional Law, Human Rights Law, and Conflict of Laws, with scholarly emphasis on America's historical role in international law development and European human rights frameworks. His prolific output includes four widely adopted textbooks and over 90 articles, serving as editor-in-chief for Oxford University Press's Elements of International Law series.
