Mark W. Greenlee is a Professor at the Institute of Psychology within the Faculty of Human Sciences at the University of Regensburg, Germany, where he holds the Chair of Experimental Psychology. He leads a prominent research group focused on cognitive neuroscience and visual perception, with access to advanced facilities like the Brain Imaging Center's 1.5 and 3 Tesla MRI scanners.
His primary research interests lie in the neural mechanisms of visual and multisensory perception. Key areas include cortical mechanisms for multi-sensory processing (particularly audiovisual and visual-vestibular integration related to self-motion perception), neural plasticity following retinal or cortical lesions, perceptual learning and decision-making, saccadic and pursuit eye movements, and language processing. His group employs a multimodal approach combining functional MRI (fMRI), EEG, psychophysics, and computational modeling.
His recent and ongoing research, as evidenced by current DFG projects, focuses on the neural correlates of perceptual filling-in, multisensory perception of self-motion, and neural plasticity in patients with central vision loss. His work bridges fundamental cognitive neuroscience with clinical applications, particularly in understanding and rehabilitating visual system disorders.
Prof. Greenlee has supervised numerous doctoral students, with PhD theses under his supervision covering topics such as brain connectivity analysis, perceptual filling-in, and oculomotor control. He has been a principal investigator for a wide array of significant research grants from the DFG, BMBF, and the EU over the past two decades.
