معرفی
Prof Mark Trimmer is a Professor of Biogeochemistry at Queen Mary University of London's School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences. His research focuses on aquatic ecosystem biogeochemistry, microbial ecology, and climate change impacts. He leads projects on methane and nitrogen cycling in Arctic glacial systems, rivers, and oceanic regions.
Research Interests:
Prof Trimmer applies cutting-edge isotopic and molecular techniques to study biogeochemical processes in diverse aquatic environments. Key areas include anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox), methane oxidation in riverbeds, and climate-driven shifts in greenhouse gas emissions. His work challenges conventional paradigms, such as identifying novel microbial pathways for N2O utilization and methane production in oxygenated sediments.
Grants:
- Leverhulme Trust: £279,601 (2021–2025) - Microbial link from organosulfur compounds to methane in anoxic sediments
- NERC: £78,957 (2021–2022) - Probing the cryptic nitrogen cycle
- Leverhulme Trust: £201,021 (2020–2024) - Flocculation in cyanobacteria
Lab/Team: His research group investigates microbial-driven biogeochemical cycles in rivers, estuaries, and oceans, with a focus on climate change mitigation strategies.
