Mark Telford is a Principal Teaching Fellow in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice at Southampton Law School, University of Southampton. He holds a LLB (Honours) from the University of Aberdeen and an MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice (Distinction) from the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on challenges to criminal law theory when applied to children and young people, with a parallel interest in legal education. Between 2016 and 2022, he served as Director of Education and Deputy Head (Education) at the Law School, leading curriculum reviews and participating in HEFCE-funded assessment feedback projects. Telford has been nationally recognized for teaching excellence, including a 2018 Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence.

Research Interests: Criminal Law theory, youth justice systems, legal education, and international human rights compliance in criminal justice. Recent work includes studies on sexual consent perceptions among young people and the historical shaping of community interventions in criminal policy.
Teaching Contributions: Coordinates the Year 1 LLB Criminal Law module and the Youth Justice optional module. Awarded teaching excellence prizes by the University of Southampton, SUSU (honorary membership), and a national Collaborative Award.

Grants & Leadership: Co-led HEFCE-funded assessment feedback project. Current projects include curriculum review of Law School undergraduate programs. Past roles include researcher for the Procurator Fiscal in Aberdeen and collaborative projects on Northern Ireland criminal justice models and New Labour policy influences.
Labs & Teams: Member of the Centre for Justice Studies. Supervises PhD candidate Elizabeth Joy Herbert in MPhil/PhD Law.
