Mark Svenvold is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at Seton Hall University. He specializes in poetry, nonfiction writing, and contemporary American poetry, with a focus on blending literary creativity with journalistic storytelling. Svenvold earned his M.F.A. from the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop as a Teaching-Writing Fellow.
His notable works include poetry collections *Soul Data* (Vassar Miller Award winner) and *Empire Burlesque*, as well as nonfiction books *Big Weather* (on tornadoes) and *Elmer McCurdy* (adapted into a Broadway musical). He has contributed articles to *The New York Times Magazine*, *Forbes*, and *Orion Magazine*.
Svenvold’s research explores intersections of technology, culture, and environment, reflected in his current project *You, Me, and the Algorithmic Sea*, a poetry trilogy critiquing digital society. He teaches creative writing and developed courses integrating neuroscience with creative thinking.
Awards include the Beyond Baroque Award and the Spoon River Editor’s Choice Prize. His creative work appears in *The New Yorker*, *The Atlantic*, and other leading journals.
