Mark Soler is a Researcher in the Department of Law at the European University Institute (EUI), having joined the institution in 2023 as part of cohort 2023. A Maltese national, Soler contributes to the academic community at EUI through his research in environmental law and climate change governance.
Mark Soler's research focuses on several interconnected areas within environmental law and policy. His work examines energy and climate issues, public policy approaches to environmental challenges, and the principles of sustainability in legal frameworks. He has particular expertise in environmental justice, biodiversity protection, and comparative and European constitutional law as it relates to environmental governance. His research explores how legal systems can effectively address climate change through injunctions and other legal mechanisms.
Soler is actively involved in several research projects at EUI. He contributes to the ongoing "Environmental challenges and climate change governance" project and the "Expert Knowledge and Authority in Transformative Times" initiative. Previously, he participated in research on "Technological change and society." His doctoral research, supervised by Joanne Scott, focused on "Enjoining the Green State: The Practice of Environmental Injunctions in Europe," examining how courts address environmental protection through legal injunctions across European jurisdictions.
