Dr. Mark Skidmore is Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry at Keele University's School of Life Sciences. He completed his PhD at Liverpool University on heparin/heparan sulphate interactions and holds a biochemistry degree from Imperial College London. His research focuses on carbohydrate biochemistry, particularly glycosaminoglycan-protein interactions relevant to biomedical applications.
Current investigations include developing tools for studying protein-carbohydrate interactions and applying them to:
- SARS-CoV-2 spike protein binding mechanisms
- Inhibitors for Alzheimer's disease enzymes
- Antiviral therapeutics
