Mark Shen

Mark Shen, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) School of Medicine, affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry, UNC Neuroscience Center, and Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities (CIDD). As Co-Director of the CIDD Clinical Trials Program, his translational research bridges neuroimaging of infants with neurodevelopmental disorders (autism, Fragile X syndrome, Angelman syndrome, Down syndrome) and mechanistic studies in animal models. He also investigates adult neurological conditions like migraine.

• Focuses on longitudinal neuroimaging, deep phenotyping, and gene-based therapies
• PI of a 5-year NIH-funded study on CSF pathophysiology in neurodevelopmental disorders
• Collaborates on industry-sponsored clinical trials for novel therapeutics

Dr. Shen has received multiple awards, including INSAR's Young Investigator of the Year and NIH recognition for autism research advancements. His lab partners with the Infant Brain Imaging Study (IBIS) Network, an NIH Autism Center of Excellence.
