Mark Santow is a Professor of History at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where he teaches in the Department of History. His office is located in Balsam Hall 9177, and he can be reached at 508-999-8301.
Professor Santow specializes in American historical studies with particular focus on:
- US History from Civil War and Reconstruction to present
- Race relations and the color line in modern America
- Civil rights movement and related social justice issues
- Military history, especially the Vietnam War era
- American foreign policy development
His teaching portfolio includes HST 116: History of US II, which surveys American history from the Civil War to contemporary times; HST 346: The Color Line in Modern America, examining racial controversies, school segregation, affirmative action, and reparations from historical perspective; and HST 350: America in Vietnam, analyzing the history, politics and legacy of the U.S. war in Southeast Asia.
Professor Santow contributes to multiple academic programs including the traditional History BA, Online History BA, and Urban Studies programs at UMass Dartmouth, demonstrating his commitment to both conventional and digital educational platforms.
