Mark S. Nagel is a Professor in the Sport and Entertainment Management Department at the University of South Carolina's College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management. He also maintains an affiliation with Saint Mary's College of California's Graduate Kinesiology program. Nagel joined the University of South Carolina in 2006 after serving as director of the graduate sport management program at Georgia State University.
His educational background includes an Ed.D. from the University of Northern Colorado, an M.A. from Saint Mary's College of California, and a B.A. from the University of San Francisco. Prior to his academic career, Nagel worked as an assistant coach for the University of San Francisco's Women's Basketball team from 1994-1997, helping lead the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances.
Nagel's research focuses on sport management, sport finance and revenue development, intercollegiate athletics, facility management, and esports. He has co-authored 12 books including The NCAA and the Exploitation of College Profit-Athletes, Developing Successful Sport Marketing Plans, and multiple editions of Introduction to Sport Management: Theory and Practice. His scholarly work appears in journals such as the Journal of Sport Management, Sport Marketing Quarterly, and Sport Management Review.
Nagel serves as the associate director of the College Sport Research Institute and has consulted for various organizations including law firms and media outlets. His research has been cited in numerous media publications discussing current issues in sports business and management.

He has received multiple grants for research projects related to sport management and has served as a consultant for litigation cases involving sports organizations.
