Professor Mark Richardson is the Head of School (Neuroscience) at King's College London, affiliated with the Department of Basic & Clinical Neuroscience within the School of Neuroscience. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of epilepsy through neuroimaging, neurophysiological techniques, and computational modeling. He collaborates with mathematicians and engineers to develop models explaining seizure onset and network dynamics. Key projects include the King’s Epilepsy Research Collective (KERC) and studies on seizure prediction using wearable sensors and AI.
- Roles: Professor, Head of School (Neuroscience)
- Affiliations: Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience; NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC)
Research interests center on epilepsy’s underlying brain networks, drug effects on networks, and long-term seizure mechanisms. Notable work includes EEG-fMRI integration, seizure forecasting algorithms, and biomarker development for autism outcomes. Richardson leads projects funded by the MRC, NIHR, and the Epilepsy Research Institute, with grants totaling £2M+.
Publications highlight advancements in seizure prediction, wearable EEG technology, and network neuroscience. Collaborators include experts like Dr. Marc Goodfellow and Prof. Andreas Schulze-Bonhage. He co-leads the Epilepsy Research Institute’s Enabling Technologies theme, advancing real-time seizure forecasting and anti-seizure drug tracking.
Recent achievements include securing £1.1M for AI-driven epilepsy research and extending patient records for predictive models. His lab’s work bridges clinical and computational approaches to improve epilepsy diagnosis and treatment.
