Mark Prescott is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Monash University, affiliated with the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute. His research focuses on fluorescent protein technology, autophagy, mitochondria, and optogenetics. He has led or contributed to multiple projects funded by ARC and NHMRC, including studies on Burkholderia pseudomallei pathogenesis and autophagy mechanisms.

Research interests include engineering fluorescent proteins for biotechnology applications, understanding FP structure-optical property relationships, and applying these tools to super-resolution microscopy and optogenetics. Key projects include investigating microbial pathogenesis mechanisms and host immune responses. Over 110 publications span microbiology, cell biology, and drug discovery.
Collaborative grants include studies on bacterial virulence factors (2013-2018) and autophagy regulation (2013-2016). His work contributes to SDGs through biotechnology innovations in health and disease research.
