Mark Petrie is a Professor of Cardiology at the University of Glasgow’s School of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health and an Honorary Consultant at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. He leads major clinical trials (e.g., MARITIME, SYMPHONY) and chairs over 40 Clinical Events Committees for trials like EMPAREG-OUTCOME and DELIVER. With over 410 publications in top journals (NEJM, Lancet, Circulation), his work focuses on heart failure mechanisms, diabetes-cardiovascular interactions, and innovative therapies. He holds leadership roles in the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology, British Society of Heart Failure, and Scottish Cardiac Audit Programme.
Research interests include interventional heart failure therapies, microvascular disease in HFpEF, iron deficiency management, cardio-oncology, and peripartum cardiomyopathy. He co-chairs the Clinical Board of the Pumping Marvellous Foundation and is Deputy Editor of the European Journal of Heart Failure.
Key contributions include the IRONMAN trial on intravenous iron in heart failure and the EMPRESS-MI study on empagliflozin post-MI. His work emphasizes translational research bridging clinical trials, imaging innovations, and guideline development.
