Mark Peterson is the Edmund S. Morgan Professor of History at Yale University's Department of History. He joined Yale in 2018 after serving as Chair of the History Department at the University of California, Berkeley (2015–2018) and teaching at the University of Iowa (1998–2007). His research focuses on Early North America, the Atlantic World, and Early Modern US history.
Education: Ph.D. in History from Harvard University. Key works include The City-State of Boston (2019) and The Price of Redemption (1997). Current projects explore the US Constitution's evolution, the American Revolution's legacy, and material culture in New England.
He co-edits the American Beginnings book series for the University of Chicago Press and is completing an edited volume of 17th-century Boston merchant John Hull's writings. His research bridges political, economic, and cultural dimensions of early American history.
