Dr Mark Pawlett is a Senior Research Fellow in Soil Biology at Cranfield University's Centre for Soil, Agrifood and Biosciences. He holds a PhD in Soil Ecology from the University of East London (2002), an MSc in Environmental Sciences (1995), and a BSc in Applied Biology (1992). His research focuses on restoring degraded soils, microbial community dynamics, and agroecological resilience. Current projects include NERC-funded ecosystem restoration, UK-Canada AMR initiatives, and Moroccan cereal crop research.
Education: PhD 2002 (Soil Ecology, UEL), MSc 1995 (Environmental Sciences, UEL), BSc 1992 (Applied Biology, Nottingham Trent University).
Research interests span soil microbiology, plant-microbe interactions, bioremediation, and sustainable agriculture. He actively investigates how litter and root exudates from invasive species like Solidago canadensis alter soil ecosystems. His work bridges microbial ecology with applied agronomic challenges, emphasizing functional soil health and resilience under climate change.
Key grants include NERC, BBSRC, EPSRC, and Innovate UK funding. Collaborations span institutions like Mohammed VI Polytechnic University and the University of East London.
