Mark Patrick Johnson

Dr. Mark P. Johnson is an Assistant Professor and Director of Athletic Bands at Christopher Newport University, where he oversees the Marching Captains and Pep Band, conducts the University Band, and teaches Secondary Instrumental Methods in the graduate program. He previously served as Director of Bands at Wilkes University and has extensive experience teaching grades 6–12 music in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Dr. Johnson's research and professional focus centers on Wind Ensemble Conducting, Athletic Bands, and Music Education, with an emphasis on secondary instrumental pedagogy and ensemble performance. His work includes artistic contributions to Football Halftime Shows, highlighting his expertise in athletic band direction and creative programming.

He is an active guest clinician, performer, and adjudicator, with a career dedicated to fostering excellence in band programs. His ensembles have consistently achieved high ratings at state and regional festivals, and his students frequently earn placements in regional and state honor bands.
