Metzstein's research explores genetic mechanisms such as nonsense-mediated decay (NMD) and exocyst-mediated membrane trafficking, using Drosophila as a model organism. His work includes studies on RNA processing, intracellular lumen formation, and tracheal development, contributing to understanding gene regulation and cellular processes.
His publications highlight advancements in functional genomics, with a focus on RNA degradation, developmental biology, and membrane dynamics. These articles demonstrate interdisciplinary research bridging molecular genetics and developmental mechanisms.
Metzstein advises graduate students through journal clubs and research presentations, fostering critical reading and presentation skills. He also facilitates courses across the medical school curriculum.
His lab is located in EIHG 6160A (Eccles Institute of Human Genetics), supporting cross-departmental research training initiatives.
