Mark McCormick is a Professor and Chief Investigator at James Cook University (JCU), affiliated with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. His research focuses on reef fish population dynamics, larval biology, and predator-prey interactions. He holds a BSc, MSc from the University of Auckland, and a PhD from JCU.
Research interests include maternal effects on larval development, habitat degradation impacts on fish communities, and the role of chemical alarm signals in predator-prey dynamics. McCormick uses field and laboratory experiments to address these questions, contributing to conservation strategies for coral reef ecosystems.
He has received awards such as the Australian Research Fellowship (1996–1999) and Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship (1993–1996). His work is published in journals like Coral Reefs and Global Change Biology. McCormick collaborates with institutions globally and advises on fisheries management and coral reef resilience.
