Mark Mc Kane is a Senior Lecturer at Ulster University, affiliated with the Belfast School of Architecture & the Built Environment and the Faculty of Computing, Engineering & Built Environment. As Course Director for the BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying & Commercial Management, he specializes in BIM implementation, construction project management, and educational curriculum development. He holds an MSc in Project Management from Herriot-Watt University and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and member of RICS.
His research focuses on Building Information Modelling (BIM) applications in construction, including quantity tracking, cost estimation, and supply chain assessment. He chairs the CIC BIM Regions Northern Ireland Steering Group and has delivered BIM training programs like 'BIM – The future of Project Information'. Current research includes a PhD on BIM adoption in Northern Ireland's construction sector.
Notable contributions include studies on data-sharing platforms in construction (2017), BIM integration in higher education curricula (2017), and digital twin applications (2024). Awards include recognition for educational excellence through his HEA Fellowship.
Collaborations include the BeIMCraft initiative promoting Minecraft-based learning in construction education and presentations at the Academic Interoperability Coalition. He has 15 years of industry experience in commercial management and consulting.
