Professor Mark Llewellyn is Head of the School of English, Communication and Philosophy at Cardiff University, where he joined as Professor of English Literature in 2017. His roles include Director of Research Funding (2017–20) and Director of Research (2018–19; 2021–23). He previously served as Director of Research at the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC, 2012–17) and held the John Anderson Research Leadership Professorship at the University of Strathclyde. Llewellyn’s research focuses on Victorian literature, neo-Victorianism, and contemporary literary studies, with notable works including Neo-Victorianism: The Victorians in the Twenty-First Century (2010, co-authored with Ann Heilmann). He edits journals like Neo-Victorian Studies and chairs Cardiff University Press Board (2018–22). Current roles include co-chairing the Cardiff University-Museum Wales Strategic Partnership (2023–2028).
His academic contributions span editorial roles, research leadership, and civic engagement through non-executive roles in education and governance, including Plymouth Marjon University. Llewellyn supervises doctoral research in Victorian and contemporary literary studies and has mentored international scholars. His recent work explores 'autobiocritical' critical-creative practices and disciplinary boundaries in literary studies.
