Mark Lauer is a Lecturer in Bassoon at the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL) College of Arts and Sciences Department of Music. A versatile performer, he serves as Principal Bassoonist with the Northwest Florida Symphony and Second Bassoon in the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (GA) and Evansville Philharmonic (IN), performing with orchestras across the United States including Kansas City Symphony and Atlanta Pops Orchestra.
- Education: Bachelor of Music and Performer's Certificate from University of Missouri Kansas City Conservatory; Master of Music from Florida State University College of Music (currently completing Doctorate of Music in Bassoon Performance)
- Teaching Experience: Graduate Teaching Assistant at Florida State University (2017-2019), Faculty Member at Northern California Bocal Majority Camps (2019), and guest masterclass instructor at multiple universities
His research interests focus on bassoon performance techniques, chamber music pedagogy, and accessible music education through entrepreneurial ventures like Rhapsody Reeds, a reed company he launched in 2022 to supply quality bassoon reeds nationwide.
Mark Lauer maintains active performance and teaching engagements while pursuing his doctorate. His performance history includes collaborations with major American orchestras and notable premieres such as Alyssa Morris' Look at the 2022 International Double Reed Society Conference.
