Dr. Mark L. Hammond is a Professor of Biochemistry and Genetics and serves as Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Innovation at Campbell University’s Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM). He previously held roles as Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost (2013–2023) and Dean of Campbell’s College of Arts & Sciences (2001–2013). His academic journey includes a BA in Biology/General Science from Hiram College (1985) and a PhD in Biology from the University of South Carolina (1990), focusing on molecular genetics and biochemistry. His research contributions include pioneering work on DNA sequencing and fragment sizing, leading to two patents and the Distinguished Patent Award in 1995.
