Mark J. Snider is the Robert E. Wilson Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at The College of Wooster. He holds a B.A. in Chemistry from Capital University (1997) and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry & Biophysics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2001). His research focuses on enzymology, particularly the structure, mechanism, and function of enzymes involved in bacterial metabolism, including flavin-dependent monooxygenases and phosphagen kinases. His work integrates biochemical, structural, and genetic approaches to elucidate catalytic mechanisms and metabolic pathways.
Key research areas include the nicotinic acid degradation pathway in Bacillus niacini, mechanisms of 6-hydroxynicotinate 3-monooxygenase (NicC), and the evolution of cooperativity in phosphagen kinases. His studies often involve collaboration with students on projects such as enzyme kinetics, protein structure-function relationships, and substrate specificity.
