Dr. Mark Harris is a Visiting Associate Professor at New York University's College of Arts & Science, Department of Liberal Studies. He holds a primary appointment at the University of British Columbia's Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice in Vancouver, Canada. His work focuses on Indigenous rights, postcolonial legal theory, and critical race studies.
Research interests include cultural heritage disputes, land claims restitution, the stolen generations, and environmental justice. He has advised Indigenous communities on native title claims in Australia and collaborates globally with scholars addressing Indigenous legal issues in the USA, New Zealand, India, Africa, and Brazil. Harris actively participates in UN forums via his LatCrit NGO affiliation and is editing Routledge's Indigenous Peoples and the Law series.
His upcoming monograph, Human Rights, the Rule of Law and Exploitation in the Postcolony: Blood Minerals (Routledge, 2024), examines resource exploitation's legal dimensions.
