Dr. Mark Gregory Oakes serves as the Associate Dean for the College of Arts & Sciences, Professor of Philosophy, and Interim Chair of the Philosophy & Religious Studies Department at Winthrop University. He holds a Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Washington and Reed College, respectively.
His research focuses on metaphysics, epistemology, the history of philosophy (Ancient and Modern), philosophy of religion, and logic. He explores themes such as the nature of human knowledge, time, material being, causality, and the logic of evil. Prior to Winthrop, he taught at the University of Washington, Seattle University, University of Puget Sound, and California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo.
