Prof. Mark Easton is the Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research Infrastructure) and a Professor of Engineering at RMIT University. He leads the Advanced Manufacturing Precinct, integrating facilities for micro/nano research, microscopy, and digital manufacturing. His career spans over 25 years in academia and industry, focusing on additive manufacturing of metals, light alloys, and solidification processes. He currently oversees research infrastructure and advocates for diversity and inclusion in engineering.
Research Interests: Additive manufacturing, light alloys (Al, Mg, Ti), solidification processing, materials design, and industry-university collaboration. His work bridges academic research with industrial applications, emphasizing translational outcomes.
Awards: Includes the 2023 International Magnesium Award, Mercator Fellowship (2022-2024), TMS Technology Awards (2017, 2012), and recognition for commercialization of alloys like AM-EX1 and AM-Lite. He has also contributed to over 300 peer-reviewed publications and supervised numerous research projects in additive manufacturing and materials science.
Advising & Collaboration: Supervises projects on additive manufacturing of gradient lattice structures, titanium alloys, and non-destructive evaluation. Collaborates across industries, including aerospace, biomedical, and automotive sectors. Leads RMIT's Centre for Additive Manufacturing and engages in global initiatives like the Light Metals Alliance.
