Mark E. Morrey

Mark E. Morrey, M.D., is a Professor of Orthopedics at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, serving as Consultant in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery (Division of Hip and Knee Surgery) and Department of Clinical Anatomy. He is Program Director of the Mayo Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship and Medical Director of the Mastery Procedural Skills Lab, where he leads innovative surgical education initiatives.

Dr. Morrey's research spans four primary domains:

• Elbow and shoulder arthroplasty optimization, particularly for infected implants and massive bone loss
• Tendinopathies and regenerative medicine using novel scaffolds developed with Oxford's Botnar Research Centre
• Genetic basis of arthrofibrosis and identification of key genes predisposing to stiff joints
• Surgical skills training methodologies and their impact on resident education and patient outcomes

His scientific contributions have been recognized with numerous awards including the Education Science Career Development Award (2022-2023), Academy of Educational Excellence Award (2018), Alumni Achievement Award from St. John's University (2015), and Teacher of the Year Award in Orthopedic Surgery (2013).

Dr. Morrey has made significant contributions to surgical education methodology, serving on multiple education committees including the Surgical Graduate Education Committee and Education Space and Equipment Subcommittee. His work in the Mastery Procedural Skills Lab has advanced surgical skills training techniques that directly impact patient outcomes through improved resident performance.

His clinical practice focuses on complex shoulder and elbow conditions, performing advanced procedures including revision elbow and shoulder replacements, ligament reconstructions, and arthroscopic surgeries for patients with challenging orthopedic conditions.
