Mark Dietz is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, College of Letters & Science. His research focuses on developing environmentally benign separation processes using novel solvents and materials, with particular expertise in ionic liquids and supercritical fluids for metal ion extraction and chromatographic separations.
His research explores fundamental aspects of chemical separations through two primary avenues: 1) Room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) as tunable solvents for metal ion partitioning, and 2) Supercritical fluids (SCFs) as alternatives to traditional organic solvents. Current investigations include inorganic liquids/polyoxometalate ionic liquids, factors affecting metal transfer mechanisms, and non-fluorinated extractants for supercritical carbon dioxide systems.
Professor Dietz's recent publications (2016-2025) demonstrate consistent focus on ionic liquid-based extraction systems, chromatographic material development, and metal separation optimization. His work bridges fundamental physicochemical studies with practical applications in nuclear waste processing, environmental remediation, and green chemistry.
