Mark Deuze is a Professor of Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Humanities. His academic work spans over 150 papers and 14 books, including Well-Being and Creative Careers (Intellect, 2025), Happiness in Journalism (Routledge, 2024), and Life in Media (The MIT Press, 2023). He has held honorary appointments at institutions such as Lomonosov Moscow State University, Edith Cowan University, University of Technology Sydney, and Northumbria University.
Deuze’s research focuses on intersections between media theory, journalism, creative industries, and well-being in professional contexts. His work addresses technology and culture, media policy, and social sciences, with a particular interest in how digital media reshapes professional and cultural identities.
He is also a musician in the band Skinflower, releasing the album Kaduc (Record Union, 2024). His interdisciplinary approach bridges cultural studies and media theory, reflecting in collaborations across global universities and publications.
