Chris Johnson is a Senior Lecturer in Music Production at York St John University, where he teaches modules such as Making Music and Song & Artist Development. His research focuses on musicians' self-perception in collaborative music production and co-authoring a book with Dr. Robert Wilsmore for Routledge. He holds a BA(Hons) in Music Production (First Class), a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Professionally, Johnson is a producer-songwriter with over 20 commercially released albums, including work with bands like Mostly Autumn and Halo Blind. He also produces films, such as Ahlaam (2006), and runs his own record label, Nautical Records. His performances span 80–100 gigs annually across the UK and Europe.
Johnson’s creative and educational work includes developing the BBC Music Live in York festival (2000) and embedding media arts into school curricula through workshops. He actively contributes to the Musician’s Union (MU) Live Performance Section committee and continues advancing music production practices through his research and industry collaborations.
