Mark Couch, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Seton Hall University. His research focuses on philosophy of science and philosophy of mind, particularly the nature of explanations in social sciences and their distinction from other scientific fields. He has held multiple research grants including University Research Council Summer Grants in 2024 and 2015, and Provost's Faculty Scholarship Awards in 2009 and 2007. Couch earned his PhD from Columbia University and a BA from UC Berkeley.
His work examines functional properties, multiple realization, and mechanistic explanations. Notable publications include explorations of convergence in philosophy of science and critiques of reductionist approaches in cognitive science. He has also contributed to interdisciplinary debates through articles like 'Should Kant be Canceled?' in Philosophy Now.
