Dr. Mark Correia is a Professor in the Criminology and Criminal Justice Department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), housed within the College of Arts, Humanities, Media, and Public Affairs. He joined IUP in 2016 and previously served as Dean of the College of Health and Human Services. His work bridges academic research with practical community engagement, focusing on policing strategies, criminal justice policy, and the intersection of human-nature relationships with public health.
Dr. Correia holds a PhD in Political Science (1998) from Washington State University, an MA in Criminal Justice (1994), and a BA in Justice (1991) from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. His research emphasizes the impact of informal social networks on collective action, policing/community dynamics, and mindfulness practices in policy-making. He has collaborated extensively with governmental and non-governmental organizations to address public safety challenges.
His research interests include:
