Dr. Mark Brown is a Course Director in the Department of Digital, Tech, Innovation & Business at Staffordshire University. He holds a BA and MA from Keele University and a PhD from the University of Leicester. His research focuses on literary urban cultures, particularly the works of Paul Auster and contemporary New York fiction. He is currently developing a monograph on the contemporary New York novel.
Teaching responsibilities include American literature, contemporary British literature, and Critical Theory. His publications analyze Paul Auster’s exploration of solitude, narrative structure, and cultural geography in film and literature. Recent works include a 2010 essay on The Book of Illusions and a 2009 contribution to The Blackwell Companion to Twentieth Century American Fiction.
Research Excellence Framework 2021 recognizes his work as 'Internationally Excellent' or 'World Leading,' with a focus on intersections between cultural geography and metropolitan fiction. His forthcoming essay in Critical Engagements explores dialogues between social sciences and literary criticism.
