Mark Boslough is a Research Professor at the University of New Mexico's Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. He is a retired technical staff member from Sandia National Laboratories and currently affiliated with Los Alamos National Laboratory. His research focuses on planetary defense, climate change, and computational modeling of cosmic impact effects. Boslough holds a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Caltech (1983). He has participated in high-profile projects like the DART mission and contributed to the National Research Council's asteroid mitigation report 'Defending Planet Earth' (2010).
Research Interests: Planetary defense mechanisms, airburst physics, nuclear weapons effects, and climate science. Fieldwork includes expeditions to Tunguska, Chelyabinsk, and the Libyan Desert.
Key Contributions: Developed models for asteroid impact consequences, airburst tsunamis, and planetary defense strategies. Authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and actively debunks pseudoscientific claims like the YDIH and Tall el-Hammam meteor strike hypotheses.
