Jeff Rack is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of New Mexico. His research focuses on molecular photoswitches, photoactive materials, and the intersection of inorganic and physical chemistry. He holds a B.S. from Clemson University (1991), a Ph.D. from Colorado State University (1996), and postdoctoral training at Caltech (1999) and Los Alamos National Laboratory (2001).
His research group explores electronic and photonic materials, including ruthenium sulfoxide complexes, photochromic polymers, and lanthanide-based luminescent systems. Key areas include ultrafast spectroscopy, excited-state dynamics, and the design of functional materials for optoelectronics and energy applications.
Recent work highlights photomechanical effects, triplet energy transfer, and magneto-optical activity in conjugated systems. Rack's publications span photoinduced isomerization mechanisms, photovoltaic materials, and supramolecular assemblies. While no awards are listed, his contributions to photochromic materials and transition-metal complexes are widely recognized.
Labs/Teams: Rack Research Group (specializing in molecular photoswitches and photoactive materials).
