معرفی
Art Bragg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Johns Hopkins University, where he also serves as Director of Graduate Studies. He leads the Bragg Lab, which focuses on experimental physical chemistry and ultrafast spectroscopy of photoresponsive materials, with applications in solar energy and molecular electronics.
- PhD, Chemistry, University of California, Berkeley
- BA, Chemistry & Physics, Albion College
- Postdoctoral Research, UCLA
His research centers on ultrafast nonadiabatic photochemical dynamics, molecular photoswitches, and charge separation in conjugated systems. Using advanced spectroscopic methods, his group investigates how molecular and supramolecular structure influences energy and charge transfer in π-conjugated materials, organosilanes, and plasmonic nanoparticles.
The lab's recent publications (2014–2023) reveal a strong focus on excited-state dynamics, photoinduced electron transfer, and structure-function relationships in organic and hybrid materials. These works appear in journals like J. Phys. Chem., JACS, and ACS Photonics, reflecting a consistent contribution to physical chemistry and materials science.
- NSF Graduate Research Fellowship (awarded to advisee Tylar Clark-Winters)
Prof. Bragg has advised numerous PhD students whose dissertations cover topics such as photocyclization, charge transfer, and energy dynamics in conjugated polymers. His lab has fostered collaborations across institutions, and former members have pursued postdoctoral and industry roles at Northwestern, NIH, and NIST. The Bragg Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art ultrafast spectroscopy tools and maintains active research on both fundamental photochemical processes and their material applications.
