Mark Blacklock is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Creative Arts, Culture and Communication, Birkbeck, University of London. He holds a Royal Literary Fund Fellowship at the University of Leeds (2023–2025). His work bridges creative writing, cultural history, and genre fiction.
Blacklock's research focuses on higher spatial concepts in literature, science fiction, crime narratives, and the intersection of documentary modes with contemporary writing. He has authored acclaimed novels like I'm Jack (2015), The Emergence of the Fourth Dimension (2018), and Hinton (2020), as well as edited The Selected Nonfiction of J.G. Ballard (2023).
His awards include longlist nominations for The Walter Scott Prize and BSFA Prize. He co-edits the literary magazine Offal and collaborated on Gemma Anderson's Artangel installation And She Built a Crooked House (2024). Blacklock supervises PhDs in genre fiction, practice-led writing, and cultural phenomena analysis.
