معرفی
Dr Mark Barrett is a Senior Lecturer at the Bartlett School Env, Energy & Resources, University College London. With over 30 years of experience in energy systems modelling, he focuses on reconciling environmental, economic, and energy objectives through integrated policy and technology analysis.
- RCUK Academic Fellowship
Education:
- Doctor of Philosophy, Open University (1981)
- Postgraduate Certificate, University of Newcastle (1974)
- Bachelor of Science (Honours), University of Sussex (1973)
His research spans energy demand/supply systems, transport electrification, and decarbonization strategies, with applications in Europe, the UK, Asia, and Latin America. Key projects include EPSRC-funded Energy People and Buildings, Low Carbon Shipping, and Energy Technology Institute initiatives on domestic thermal efficiency.
Recent publications analyze 100% renewable electricity grids in Australia, heat load dynamics in the UK, hydrogen heating solutions, and demand-side flexibility in district networks. His work emphasizes optimization algorithms, temporal resolution, and cross-sectoral trade-offs.
Scientific Contributions:
- 2023: Policy report Green Light on energy transitions
- 2022: Electricity price forecasting with storage integration
- 2022: Heat demand management using interconnectors
- 2021: Hydrogen heating and district heating optimization
As a consultant, he has advised governments and NGOs on energy policy. He supervises PhD students in energy systems and shipping while teaching modules on systems modelling, energy security, and European energy scenarios.
