Mark Baker

Mark Baker serves as a Continuing Lecturer in the Writing Program and Oakes College. Since 1999, he has developed courses integrating writing, research, and critical thinking through social justice frameworks. His work emphasizes food systems sustainability, having co-created Oakes College's food justice curriculum and teaching Oakes 167: Food Systems: Culture, Social Justice, Sustainability. He collaborates with the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) and the campus farm.

Baker has mentored graduate students new to teaching and contributed to programs like EOP Summer Bridge and the WORD initiative under campus Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) initiatives. His comparative literature background informs his interdisciplinary approach to politics, economics, and justice issues.

He maintains active partnerships with local organizations addressing food access and community needs, blending academic instruction with service-learning opportunities.
