Dr. Mark A. Tovey is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Western University, and Curator of the Hume Cronyn Memorial Observatory. His research focuses on the history of astronomy, material culture of scientific instruments, and digital public history. He has curated major exhibits such as the 1940s-era observatory office and 1960s control room at Cronyn Observatory, and co-edited A Cosmic Treasury (2023).
He leads projects like Hear Here London, an oral history initiative mapping neighborhood heritage through digital platforms. Notable awards include the 2020 Public Education Award (Architectural Conservancy Ontario) and the 2019 CSDH/SCHN Contribution Award.
Teaching: Courses include HIST 2192A (Beer's cultural history), HIST 3810A (Introduction to Public History), and graduate supervision in public history internships. He has produced historical reenactments (e.g., John Harris's speeches) and served as Eldon House Board Vice Chair.
