Mark A. Schattner

Mark A. Schattner is a gastroenterologist and Chief of the Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). He specializes in advanced endoscopic techniques for gastrointestinal cancers, including pancreatic, colon, gastric, and esophageal cancers. His expertise includes procedures like endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and enteroscopy. Dr. Schattner focuses on developing minimally invasive treatments and novel drug delivery methods for tumors, collaborating closely with surgical and research teams at MSK. He received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed his residency at The New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center, followed by a fellowship at MSKCC.

His research emphasizes improving patient outcomes through innovative endoscopic technologies. Dr. Schattner has been recognized with multiple awards, including Castle Connolly’s Top Doctor distinctions (2016–2024) and the National Pancreas Foundation’s Nobility in Science Award (2016). He maintains affiliations with various insurance providers and practices in New York City. Outside of medicine, he enjoys running, completing the NYC Marathon, and traveling with his family.
