Mark A Malesker

Mark A Malesker, PharmD, FCCP, FCCM, FASHP, BCPS, is a Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Medicine at Creighton University's School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. He holds dual appointments in the Departments of Pharmacy Practice and Medicine and serves as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist with the Pulmonary Medicine/Critical Care Service at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center Bergan Mercy. With over three decades of experience, Dr. Malesker has established himself as a leading expert in critical care pharmacotherapy and respiratory medicine.

Dr. Malesker earned his B.S. in Pharmacy (1986) and Pharm.D. (1988) from Creighton University, followed by a Cardiovascular Research Fellowship at Creighton University Cardiac Center (1989). His academic journey has been marked by continuous contributions to both education and clinical practice.

Dr. Malesker's research interests focus on critical care and cardiopulmonary topics, with particular expertise in fluids and electrolytes management, acid-base disturbances, anticoagulation therapy, and respiratory pharmacology. His work has significantly contributed to understanding medication management in critically ill patients, with emphasis on optimizing pharmacotherapy in complex medical conditions. He has published extensively on cough management and has served as a key contributor to multiple CHEST guideline panels focusing on cough management. His research has addressed critical issues in intensive care medicine including sepsis management, ARDS, medication safety in critical care, and management of complex respiratory conditions.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Malesker has published over 300 abstracts, journal articles, and book chapters. His most recent work has addressed critical issues in intensive care medicine including sepsis management, ARDS, medication safety in critical care, and management of complex respiratory conditions. He has been particularly active in developing evidence-based guidelines for cough management through his work with the CHEST Expert Cough Panel.

His commitment to education extends to mentoring future healthcare professionals and developing innovative teaching methods including interprofessional education simulations. His clinical practice as a clinical pharmacy specialist focuses on cardiopulmonary, critical care, and anticoagulation, allowing him to bridge the gap between research and patient care, ensuring his work directly impacts clinical practice and patient outcomes.
