Mark A. Celio is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior and an Assistant Professor (Research) in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Brown University's School of Public Health. He holds affiliations with the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies (CAAS) and the Alcohol Research Center on HIV (ARCH) at Brown University. Celio earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Binghamton University (SUNY) in 2013.
His research focuses on the effects of alcohol on decision-making and behavior in sexual contexts, particularly among gay, bisexual, and men who have sex with men (MSM). This work aims to develop interventions targeting heavy drinking to reduce HIV/STI transmission risks. Celio's studies often employ innovative methods like telehealth interventions, geofencing, and ecological momentary assessment to study real-time behaviors.
His publications (2011–2021) span behavioral economics, HIV risk behavior, and intervention design. Notable topics include alcohol-related sexual risk reduction, motivational interviewing efficacy, and the role of technology in health behavior change. Collaborators include experts in addiction medicine, epidemiology, and behavioral science.
