Marjorie Fisher is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Egyptology in the Department of Middle East Studies at the University of Michigan. She is affiliated with the Center for Middle Eastern & North African Studies (CMENAS) and has contributed to archaeological projects such as the Abydos Middle Cemetery Project and the University of Chicago’s Epigraphic Survey at Luxor Temple. Her work also extends to the Valley of the Kings.
Education: She holds a PhD from the University of Michigan (1998) and an M.A. from Johns Hopkins University (1980).
Research Interests: Fisher specializes in Ancient Egyptian language, history, and epigraphy. Her work focuses on the Ramesside Dynasty, particularly the sons of Ramesses II, and Egyptian New Kingdom art and architecture. She is co-editing and contributing to the forthcoming book Ancient Nubia: African Kingdoms on the Nile, which explores Nubian history, archaeology, religion, and kingship. Her monograph The Sons of Ramesses II (two volumes) systematically documents material related to Ramesses II’s royal offspring up to 1998.
Labs/Teams: She has been involved with the University of Michigan Abydos Middle Cemetery Project as Associate Director for Epigraphy and the University of Chicago’s Epigraphic Survey at Luxor Temple.
