She pioneered the study of Orlando di Lasso’s Prophetiae Sibyllarum through alchemical and esoteric lenses, and her ongoing work on the Tarantella examines its role as a therapeutic ritual in early modern Italy. Her pedagogy emphasizes critical thinking, historical context, and personal expression in music education.
Scientific Awards:
- Fulbright grant for research in Vienna, Austria (1998–1999)
- American Musicological Society’s Master Teacher designation (2010)
Roth has mentored students across disciplines, including honors program participants and music majors, fostering connections between music history and their personal career goals. Her NEH grant supported course development on the value of liberal arts education, while her Music and Culture in Austria and Germany study-abroad program offers immersive experiences in Salzburg and Vienna. She advocates for interdisciplinary collaboration, notably planning a course on Music, Magic, and Medicine with colleagues in psychology, biology, and therapy programs.
