Marjo Outila is a University Teacher and Doctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Lapland. Her work focuses on social work, sociology, and gerontology with specializations in end-of-life care, digital ageing, and Foucauldian discourse analysis. She has actively participated in multidisciplinary research projects addressing social and health care challenges in rural regions, eHealth implementation, and demographic changes in late modern societies.

Her research explores narratives surrounding incurable illness, digital competencies of elderly populations, and teleconferencing solutions for social isolation. Recent projects include AgeSam (aging and demographic changes) and HARVEST (eHealth in rural areas).
Key collaborations involve European and Nordic networks analyzing healthcare policies, caregiver gender equality, and technology-supported services. She has organized workshops on technology-mediated health services and presented at international conferences on topics like video conferencing for elderly social inclusion.
