Marjan van der Woude

Professor Marjan van der Woude is a Professor of Microbiology at University of York, affiliated with the Hull York Medical School and the York Biomedical Research Institute. Her research focuses on bacterial pathogenesis, phase variation, and surface modification mechanisms.

Her work investigates how phenotypic heterogeneity and surface carbohydrate modifications (e.g., LPS) enhance pathogen survival. Collaborations span immunology, biochemistry, and clinical disciplines to develop novel diagnostics and antimicrobial therapies.

Recent publications highlight structural analysis of acyltransferases, biofilm dynamics, and plasma-based antimicrobial applications. She actively mentors postgraduate researchers and contributes to MBBS/Biomedical Sciences curricula.
